Elizabeth Mushi

My name is Elizabeth Mushi. I am 48 years old and a single mother of three kids. I left my husband years ago because he was abusive and violent. One day, he tried to kill me, and I had to run away. During the escape, he injured my nose. This terrifying experience made me realize I had to leave to stay alive.

After leaving him, life was very hard. I had no job or money. I did laundry for a small pay and sometimes sold vegetables to feed my children, but it was never enough for three meals a day. One day, a friend told me about life skills training at Tupendane Africa Foundation. She encouraged me to join, and I decided to give it a try.

At Tupendane Africa Foundation, I learned many things:

- Business

- English language

- Life skills like sewing and hairdressing

- Goal setting and achieving

These lessons gave me new skills, knowledge, and experience to overcome life's challenges. I learned about business, saving money, basic English, sewing, tailoring, and how to set and reach goals. These skills boosted my confidence, self-esteem, resilience, and budgeting abilities. After completing the training, my life improved. The foundation even gave me a sewing machine, which helped me start earning money by making and repairing clothes. With this income, I can:

- Pay rent

- Pay school fees

- Buy food

- Buy clothes and other necessities for my children

- Buy sewing materials

- Run a small vegetable business from home

Tupendane Africa Foundation transformed my life. I went from struggling to becoming a successful businesswoman. Now, my children are in school and eating well, and my business is growing. I hope

to become a well-known clothes designer in Arusha.

ASIFIWE

My Success Story

My name is Asifiwe, and I am a single mother of four children (ages 16, 12, 4, and 10 months). I left my husband because he was abusive and hurt both me and the children. My two older kids are in school, but I struggled to pay for their school fees, lunch, and other needs. We live in a small room that costs 30,000 TZS a month for rent and 5,000 TZS for electricity. I also spend 100 TZS each time we need water. Without a gas stove, I have to cook with firewood or sometimes charcoal.

Before joining Tupendane Africa Foundation, I did laundry and house cleaning for others, but the work was unreliable. Often, I couldn’t provide enough food for my children. After leaving my husband, life became even tougher because I had no steady job or income. I could barely manage to feed my children with the little money I earned.

Living near Tupendane Africa Foundation, I decided to speak with the director and she encouraged me to attend their life skills training. I joined and started learning various courses. Alongside my small jobs, I learned many valuable skills at the foundation, such as:

- Business basics

- English language

- Life skills

- Goal setting and achieving

These lessons gave me the knowledge and experience to tackle life’s challenges. I learned about business, savings, basic English, and goal setting, which helped me plan my life and future.

After completing the training, I felt more confident and resilient. My budgeting and saving skills improved, and I was given some capital to start a business. I began selling bananas and used the earnings to pay rent, school fees, buy food and clothes for my children.

Thanks to Tupendane Africa Foundation, my life transformed from struggling to thriving. I now earn enough to cover our living expenses, and my children are well-fed and studying. I am planning to expand my business to improve our economic situation even further.
